Reading the news feed and charts
How AlgoThink scores news per coin, and how to read the chart overlays — SMA, RSI, and your open positions' stop and target drawn in.
Two things sit next to every trading decision on AlgoThink: what the market is doing (the chart) and what's being said about it (the news feed). Both are on the Dashboard, on their own tabs and inline on suggestion cards.
The news feed
Headlines are collected per coin and scored for impact: a direction (bullish or bearish) and a magnitude. The feed and the scoring both look at a rolling 48-hour window, so what you see is always current — older headlines and past assessments are kept, but only as an archive for research. On a suggestion card this shows as a compact badge — e.g. bullish 2 of 3 — with the summary behind it.
The point isn't to trade the news; it's to stop you approving a technically clean setup while something obvious is happening in the other direction.
- Coverage is uneven. Major coins get plenty of coverage; smaller ones get very little, and some have no reliable source at all. Thin coverage reads as "no signal", not "all clear".
- News never blocks a trade by itself — unless you explicitly make it a condition in autonomous mode.
- It keeps working without the AI. Headline collection doesn't depend on the AI reviewer being available.
The chart
Candlesticks with the context the strategies actually use drawn on top:
- SMA 20 and SMA 60 — the fast and slow moving averages several trend strategies key off.
- RSI 14 — momentum, in its own pane.
- Dashed lines — your open position's stop-loss and take-profit, drawn at their actual prices.
- Markers — solid for executed trades, hollow for pending suggestions.
The chart auto-refreshes and keeps your zoom level, and you can pull it up directly from a suggestion card with Show chart so the setup and the price action are on screen together.
Market regime
Alongside price you'll see the current regime, derived from ADX: broadly, trending versus ranging. It matters because strategies are built for one or the other — a trend-follower firing in a choppy market gets a counter-regime warning on its suggestion card for exactly this reason.
What to consider
- Indicators describe the past. Every overlay here is computed from closed candles. They're context for a decision, not a forecast.
- Prices can go stale. The status bar shows how old the current prices and news are; if something's stale, it says so rather than quietly showing you old numbers.
- Use the regime badge as a filter. If you're unsure about a suggestion, checking whether its style matches the current regime is often the fastest useful sanity check.
